God’s Classroom on the Move – One Pilgrim’s journey on the Camino – Second installment

Meg Edwards, a parishioner for several years, is currently walking the Camino on pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In case you aren’t familiar, this pilgrimage dates back many centuries and is “a journey for the spirit and soul that millions of travelers complete year after year.” Meg began her journey in early June and will complete her pilgrimage near the end of July. She has agreed to share nuggets from her journey in a series of brief praise reports as she makes her way along the Camino. This is her second installment. You can walk but you can’t hide… my “editor” Deacon Tim, found me out here on the road encountering more Camino insights.

Over the last several days we have been experiencing a ton of wind! As I walked along today I couldn’t help but call to mind the phrase, “the winds of change.”

Change seems to be another overarching theme of my experience on the Camino.

The weather has changed from 90 degrees and sunny to 50 degrees and raining. The terrain has changed from mountainous and remote to completely flat trekking alongside the major thoroughfare.meg2

I’ve had concern about aches in my feet, and an hour later I’ve forgotten my feet for pain in hips or back…

I’ve walked the road alone and I’ve walked while conversing with other pilgrims, but just when you get used to the company you’re keeping, it’s time for them to end their journey.

And so it goes along the Camino, everything changes.

But aside from change, there is one other constant … walking! I thought today how the act of walking could be thought of as a metaphor for God’s presence in our life. Even though all things are changing, God is always constant just like walking is on the Camino.
Buen Camino, as we say out here, keep on walking!

I know Meg Edwards from the Parish Pastoral Council. She is truly an inspiration to me with her faith and commitment to CTK. Keep going- We should all take a little stock in her journey to better support CTK in the upcoming events like Oktoberfest, the parish campaign to restore CTK physical plant and many other programs at CTK.
